Flexamat® is a permanent erosion control mat utilized for stabilizing slopes, channels, low water crossing, inlet/outlet protection, and shorelines. It consist of concrete blocks (6.5˝ x 6.5˝ with a 2.25˝ profile) locked together and embedded into a high strength geogrid. There is 1.5˝ spacing between the blocks that gives the mat flexibility and allows for optional vegetation growth. The mat is packaged in rolls, making transporting and installing Flexamat® efficient.

Flexamat consists of concrete shapes, locked together with a high strength, polypropylene geogrid. There are openings around each concrete block that give Flexamat the flexibility and enable it to be packaged in rolls. The openings also allow vegetation to grow through the mat. Eventually, vegetation will completely cover Flexamat. It can be manufactured with various backings such as non-woven fabric to stop vegetation growth or a TRM (turf re-enforcement mat) depending on the soil conditions and other factors.
There's a wide range of applications where Flexamat is utilized, but it is most commonly used for erosion control. Flexamat is used to control erosion in channels, outlet protection, on slopes, for shoreline protection and many other applications.
Flexamat offers permanent, hard armor protection, with a natural vegetated appearance. Flexamat may be mowed over with commercial mowing equipment or left to grow wild. Besides grass, there are many other types of native plant species that can be planted to grow within the mat. For example, Willow Saplings were planted through Flexamat for a streambank re-vegetation project.

Flexamat Canal Erosion Protection
Flexamat® is the solution for protecting canals from erosion, caused both by wave impact and also by the burrowing of animals such as nutria and muskrats. Canals are essential for storm water management, especially in hurricane prone areas. Flexamat® permanently armors these canal banks so that they can convey the water volume that they are designed to carry to prevent flooding.

Un-vegetated, Flexamat® has high performance capabilities of 19 ft./sec and 24 psf. From day one of installation, Flexamat has better performance than compared to 24" rock rip rap.
The low profile of Flexamat® prevents debris or logs from catching the mat and helps keep the waterway open to positive flow.
Often, working within the stream or river may not be possible. The compact roll design enables Flexamat to be installed from an excavator sitting within the right-of-way.

Flexamat ensures a stable driving surface for access roads, boat ramps, low water crossings and parking areas. Flexamat is extremely durable, due to it's make up of 5000 PSI concrete blocks which are re-enforced with a high strength geogrid The space between the blocks allows for infiltration of storm water.
The mat is permanently locked together with a high strength geogrid and is pre-formed and packaged in rolls. The installation of Flexamat is efficient and can be completed in submerged applications. Flexamat can be used as a vegetated driving surface or infilled with crushed stone. The blocks create a stable, non slippery surface that provides traction when walking or driving across. |

Flexamat Inlet & Outlet Erosion Protection

Flexamat® is the superior solution for Inlet and Outlet protection for storm water drainage. It has many advantages over Rip Rap. Flexamat is much easier to maintain. Commercial mowers can safely mow directly over Flexamat without the risk of damaging the mower as the blocks cannot be dislodged and thrown by the mowers. No special weed abatement contracts needed, reducing maintenance cost and time. Pedestrians and wildlife can safely walk on Flexamat resulting in easier litter cleanup. Additionally Flexamat has many advantages over concrete lined channels. Due to its flexability it will not crack with freezing and thawing cycles creating a longer life span than concrete lined channels. Pollutants entering concrete channels go directly into the natural waterways while a vegetated channel will naturally cleanse pollutants. Flexamat does not allow ponding which promotes mosquitoes and also algae accumulations creating slick surfaces which are hazards to walk on. Flexamat is a great application in areas where graffiti can be an issue.
